Copic (コピック, Kopikku?) are markers developed in Japan by Too Corporation. Originally, the markers were being used for designs, fine arts, architecture, automotive, illustration then later on the Japanese Comic such as Manga and Anime. Browsing on any of the Manga comics is quite amazing - images are detailed and can really see how much work being done to make it alive and colorful. Will I explore on coloring Manga images? One day … In the meantime, let's start with my coloring adventure experience.
I love to doodle, scribble and color whenever I have a pen in my hands. So here's the story, I was just in the website browsing "mood" when I got hold of three interesting books of Taro Gomi. Who's he? I was curious about the books and bought it – Scribbles (my favorite pastime), Doodles (my favorite word) and new discovered word: Squiggles. The three books are just ordinary coloring books with playful drawings and I enjoyed it since it encourages our creative thinking – plus a stress reliever. Back then I was just using my very loyal full color set of Aquarelle Faber Castell pencils. Plain and simple … and I still them. I am not really good in drawing … maybe I try to shy away from it.
So what happened to Copic Markers? The Copic Markers has been in the market and Paper crafters slowly appreciating the use of it in making handmade cards, scrapbook pages, etc. So here I am … pursuing my doodles, scribbles and squiggles in a different level. I once said that I will not start with stamping since I know I will get addicted in collecting all the images, markers, and inks. True enough … they all go together and besides, I just wanted to focus on my original plan - making beautiful, unique and stylish party favors. I was happy and contented until I bought my first Copic Ciao Markers while I was in my favorite shop in Germany en route to the USA for vacation.
That was the beginning of my adventure with Copic Markers.
But I was still busy with my party favors that time while discovering in between the interesting Copic Markers. The verdict? I took and got my Standard & Intermediate Certifications during the CHA Show in California. Until then I was just in constant practice (practice, experiment, discover) without making any finish product. I was just coloring and coloring – we all know that everybody can color but learning the techniques is something important for me to learn and being comfortable with, especially that Copic Markers are not just ordinary markers. Now I am a proud owner of the 334 (+ 12 new colors) Sketch Copic Markers and I love it.
